Lark Master Singers

The Master Singers is Lark’s volunteer adult choir, open via audition to any interested and committed adult singer. Choir practice is held Monday and Wednesday evenings and, like its younger counterpart, maintains a repertoire of influential works from the Western and Armenian schools. Singers are given the opportunity to learn choral techniques from both musical traditions and improve individual performance practice alongside other passionate singers.

Over the years, the choir has tackled many great works of choral music. Most notable are its renditions of Beethoven’s glorious Symphony No. 9 performed at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and Verdi’s famous Requiem, performed to a full house at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. It has further demonstrated its vocal and performance dexterity by playing a crucial role in the productions of Tchouhadjian’s opera comiques, also presented at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

Lark’s Master Singers takes particular pride in maintaining a repertoire of seldom-heard/seldom-performed music. This is most relevant in regards to Armenian classical music, and such composers as Tigran Mansourian, Parsegh Ganatchian, David Halajian, and, of course, the beloved Komitas. While bringing classical favorites to the wider Los Angeles Public, the choir also plays a major role in introducing and reviving the rich musical traditions from the Armenian heritage for contemporary Armenian-American audiences.
