Tziatsan Children’s Choir

Tziatzan is structured specifically for youth ensembles and is open to children ages six to fourteen, with rehearsals held every Friday and Saturday. Because basic singing ability develops with age, the choir actually meets in three sub-groups: six to nine-year-olds, ten to twelve-year-olds, and thirteen to fourteen-year olds.

Choral studies develop consciousness of the vocal instrument and work to identify and then broaden and improve each student’s vocal range. The chorus is also a base component to all studies at Lark, as its chief aim is to build ensemble participation. This imparts to youth the skills and values of functioning as a member of a larger whole, and provides the opportunity to create life-long friends.

The choir holds several concerts each year, further giving students the opportunity to experience live performance. Children are introduced to fundamental works, which in the past have included, B. Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, J. S. Bach’s B Minor Mass, and Saint Matthew and St. John Passions, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Mozart’s Mass in C-Minor and Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms, alongside traditional Armenian folk songs and new compositions.
