Lark Cultural Annex

Lark Cultural Annex

The Lark Cultural Annex has been a long-standing aspiration of the Lark Musical Society. Ever since the property at 543 Arden Avenue was purchased in 2005, the hope has been to turn the 4,000 square-foot warehouse that sits alongside the central campus building into an intimate event hall and gathering venue.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of community members and particularly of Congressman Adrin Nazarian, who championed Lark’s cultural significance in the halls of the State Capital and secured serious State-level backing, Lark broke ground in 2020 to realize that aspiration at last.

The new Lark Cultural Annex is as multi-use communal hall serving as a gallery, research hub, and events venue. It is home to a curated collection of Armenian artifacts, including national costumes, indigenous tools, and ancient numismatics, depicting a cultural legacy spanning millennia. Its walls are lined with a meticulously amassed library of books pertaining to classical music and Armenian culture, including one of the largest collections of Ancient Armenian Manuscripts outside of Armenia. And finally, it features a retractable seating system, allowing the space to serve as an intimate concert space complete with a stage, or as an open exhibit and banquet hall. The interior design boasts a uniquely Armenian character, paying homage to the vibrant Diaspora community that is part of the fabric of Southern California.

Not only does the Lark Cultural Annex expand what Lark Musical Society offers, it also creates new educational opportunities for its students in the conservatory and encourages future collaborations with other arts organizations –  making Lark a beacon of cultural life in Glendale and establishing its permanence in the Los Angeles arts community.
