Drazark Press

Drazark Press

The establishment of the Drazark Press, for the Lark Musical Society, is one of the most important aspects of its overall educational mission. It is designed to champion works that pertain to Armenian music and its practice, put them into print, and disseminate them among libraries and academic circles. In this way Lark hopes to increase access to Armenian music, while preserving and expanding its legacy.

Formed in 1994, Drazark Press aims to publish and put into circulation two categories of texts:

  • Works that have been developed, discovered, or compiled through Lark’s own research and performance activities.
  • Works by musicologists and music scholars that address aspects of Armenian music and cultural life.

This has resulted, over the years, in the publication of a variety of academic books and monographs by Lark, all of them the product of accomplished scholarly research and cultural excavation.

While Drazark aims to be a home for scholars, researchers, and musicologists looking to publish their works on Armenian arts, it is also the hub of Lark’s own research activities. With the goal of making as much source material accessible as possible, Lark is continually engaged in translation, editing, and musical investigation. Through Drazark, Lark can regularly release the result of those activities, whether it be translations of academic texts on Armenian music for use in international scholarship, the physical compilations of rare and important musical works into databases, or the elevation of influential Armenian musical figures through biography.
